Freemans Waterholes - Jigadee Jog

After the heat of the week, then the rain of the previous 48 hours, the weather was ideal for a bush event - dry with the temperature in the high teens. The only downside was this combination also brought out a bumper number of leaches. There was a good turnout of orienteer despite it being the middle of the school holidays as well as a long weekend.
With it being a minor event Robert Preston started to help get everybody's mind into the summer street series mode by setting a score course in place of the harder courses.
Total Competitors: 56

colbee | Posted: 5 October 2008, 10:08 PM [NZ Time] Enjoyed the run, not to hot, but not raining either.
Surprised to be so close to Steve T and Josh B.
Order: 6,5,1,2,4,3,7,8,9,10,11,(decided to leave 12,13,14 till the end),16, 17,18,19,20,21,22,23,25,(22 minutes gone had time to get 24),24,26,(had a litlle walk up this hill),along road to 33,32,31,30,29,28,27,15,(missed 14 on the way to 13),13,12,14,Finish.
Time 52:47 approx. 6 km.
Maybe not the best order. Wanted to avoid swamp between 22 & 24. Thought I could run faster under powerline, then along the road. Found it OK to keep moving through the bush but not fast.
Which controls did others drop??? |

wetmit | Posted: 6 October 2008, 9:44 PM [NZ Time] My route:
Start 6 5 1 2 4 3 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 25 26 30 29 28 27 15 finish
At 10 I went east of 10 and 7+ min later used 10 to relocate then went west of it and could see 11 in a few paces! (8+ split rather than the 1 for similar control pairs) As a result I decided to drop 16.
By 22 I had decided to drop 24 as well.
At 26 I thought with the 7 min error I did not have time to get 31/32/33 but made it back with 6+ min to spare. When collecting controls I timed what it took to do 26-33-32-31-30-29 and it would have added between 7 and 8 min to get the extra 3 point. So the error definitely cost me the 3 points which meant about 8 places!
