SSS7 - Pelican (almost) Flat
footprints
Posted: 3 December 2009, 2:35 AM [NZ Time]
Thanks to the Orrs for the event, and also to the Pelican Landcare group for the improvements in the cabbage tree palm forest - its great running though on the paths now, and nothing like the weed-infested jungle that I first tried to map seven years ago. The equivalent question then at 3A wouldn't have been "how many posts on the bridge?", but something like "how many sheets of aluminium cladding have collapsed into the water on top of the rusty shopping trolley next to the lantana thicket" .
With the spread of points today it was obvious that north of the runway was longer distance territory, with fewer points in about the same distance as the southern half of the map. So I concentrated on picking up everything in the southern half leaving the option to loop around the runway if I had enough time and energy - probably "yes" to the first and "no" to the second

A so-so run. Was hoping to do OK as it was flat but felt flat myself.
Couldn't keep up a rythm at all, even on the long dead run between 1G & 1M (I dropped 1B).
Had a good route mapped out in my head but couldn't get my frame around it and had to bail at the end lessening my efficiency.
I don't have garminn here but I think it was about 6.9km so not overly fast considering the lack of contours.
Had to leave early due to another function so didn't get to hear much of the post mortem discussions.
Thanks to all the Orrs (was ALex there, I didn't see him) for organinsing a great afternoons run.

overambitious. That is how i will describe my run here. I should have stayed south of the airport but no I had to push myself and tried to do all north of the airport. Nearly succeeded but not quite missed 3 points worth of controls and arrived back late.
Oh well not am improvement scorewise but given what i attempted i think i'm getting better with my fitness and stamina.
Thanks to the Orrs
