Mess Engineer | Posted: 12 November 2009, 3:11 PM [NZ Time] My route 1B-2A-2B-2K-3E-2C-2E-3D-1L-2D-1M(25min)-2J-1G-3A-2H-3B(37min)-1A(43min). So 21 points in first 25 minutes and 12 points in last 20 minutes. 1G-3A and 3B-1A were long hilly runs for minimal return but I still can’t see too many other alternatives.
I was really worried about the hills this week, and Lakelands next week may be similar. However Margaret at least gave us a relatively flat option 1B-2A-2B-2K for the first 8 minutes and overall the run went well.
Last time I did Waratah was the fifth Street Orienteering Event I had ever done (back in January 2008) where I scored 26 and maximum was 43 so 60.5% and came 41st of 96. Back then I also retried again on a weekend via a totally different route and only got 21 the second time! This time I scored 33 and maximum was 47 so 70.2% and came 24th of 97. Improving.
Last Year I scored > 70% 2 of 15 events and this year > 70 % from 4 of 4. So all those double Bush Event runs, and riding the push bike to work, seen to be starting to pay dividends.
Also some how managed to get 19 consistency points for this event so maybe a I can make my way to the top of at least this tally board.
Thanks to the Peels for the course and the very clear clue sheet.
The next week is going to be hectic with Rogaining Sunday, Street Wednesday, Street/Park Friday and then Mountain Bike Sunday. Just as well I can rest the following Wednesday and watch everyone else run around Cardiff instead.

leepback | Posted: 12 November 2009, 4:45 PM [NZ Time] Wow - it is a big week coming up for some of us.
Perhaps I should have done a bit more training.

footprints | Posted: 15 November 2009, 2:26 PM [NZ Time] Thanks to Margaret & Geoff for the course - I know I didn't do it justice. Felt sluggish during a short warm-up and that persisted during the run, and the second half became a jog/walk (more walk than jog too).
We tried to find Peter B's white pelican after the event but it must have flown away (scared away by the black woman's statue?) |
cariar | Posted: 15 November 2009, 3:21 PM [NZ Time] Score course:- planning - Fail; execution - Fail; running - hard but not fast. Hills weren't the problem but the stairs were so steep it was dangerous to do anything but 1 at a time on the rare downhill. Determined to do homage to mapgirl's great course and not be late...well just a little. Fluffed the start big time and so in my haste to verify where I was went to a 1 pointer that I probably would have got later. Other than that average route choice with options to cut or add if time allowed - nup it didn't.
Controls were varied and interesting and you had to go there to get them. Laughed loudly at the play equipment clue about the cost of bananas - I think it is poor to educate children that food is that cheap! I ask you - 6c for a banana?? But it was a really nice and different clue. Lots of route choice available to those with clear head and a fast mind to match their fast feet. I got sprung running in by junior who came to check out the event starting in his street. Note to setter: He was disappointed that there wasn't a clue on his house!
Thanks mapgirl and leepback for a great event. |
